Most people think of Scotland as the birthplace of the world’s greatest whiskys, so it was quite a surprise when Kavalan Solist Vinho Barrique took 1st place for world’s best single malt as well as best Asian single mat. It’s produced by the King Car distillery in Taiwan through maturation of malt whisky in American oak barrels previously used for white and red wines. At 58.6% ABV, the whisky is said to have a bold, consistent taste with underlying hints of chocolate and fruit. [via]
As expected, a quick online search shows it’s sold out at most e-retailers (at the moment), but you can expect to pay close to $200 USD for a bottle when you find one.
