Del Popolo is not your average food truck.

Forgoing the usual food van silhouette, a 20-ft. transatlantic shipping container was modified with glass doors, exposing the traditional Italian wood-fired oven within.

The 800-degree oven can cook one of their three (currently) pizzas in about a minute.

1  Tomato, fresh mozzarella, basil, extra virgin olive oil, sea salt  $10

2  Fresh mozzarella, ricotta, grana padano, basil, garlic  $11

3  Mozzarella, braised rapini, spicy salami, red onion, chili oil  $14

Owner Jon Darsky spent $180,000 and worked with four designers until they reached this magnificent result.  Money well-spent.

I am obsessed with the concept of mobile food. This is an exceptionally creative example of how food on wheels can be just as interesting and exciting as food served from a restaurant.
